Passionate about wine, Ilve honours the best possible conditions for wine storage, offering a temperature range of 5–12°C in the upper compartment, and 12–18°C in the lower compartment, as well as relative humidity settings. The wine cellar consists of five wooden shelves, which are telescopic for safe and easy movement back and forth, supporting easy access to wine. We read mixed reviews prior to purchase, but overall it's 'fir for purpose'. I find wine storage cabinets a little overpriced for what is a glorified small fridge. The drawers are tight and you have to slide them forward to place or remove a bottle, but not difficult to use. The unit is slightly noisier than a comparable fridge of its size. Noticeable in the 'still of night', but not a problem if kept in the garage. It does the job.
Do not consider this fridge
The fridge, while it looks attractive, does not fit standard-sized bottles of sparkling, chardonnay or most red wines.
The specifications state "Bordeaux" sized bottles at 75mm, however, to fit these bottles on the shelves you need to warp the wooden shelf, slide the shelf out, and push multiple shelves back in again at the same time. This is incredibly frustrating and results in the likelihood that the shelf will fall out onto the floor, particularly if it is full, or over time, split or warp the shelf permanently.
Also, you cannot swap the temperature zones, the top (smaller section) is for white and the lower section for red wines. If you drink more white than red, this is not for you...
If you drink sparkling/champagne, this is not for you.
If you drink chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon or any standard bottle of wine, this is not for you.
Appliances Online response was that once it was plugged in, they would not consider the issues and that it met the specifications.
The bottom line is that the fridge (and most likely all ILVE wine fridges) are not fit for the purpose of storing wine in Australia.
Excellent purchase
We purchased this to replace our vintec fridge that had stopped working. Looks beautiful, very quiet operation and easy to install and use. Would definitely recommend.
